Recalls: Chevrolet T1XX Silverado
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Chevrolet T1XX Silverado
2021 Chevrolet T1XX Silverado HD: rear wheel lock up or ABS activation
In November 2024, recall campaign N24-2454440 was issued for 2021 Chevrolet T1XX Silverado HD vehicles. Under certain conditions, drivers may experience harsh transmission shifts, which could cause momentary rear wheel lock up or activate the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). Sudden unintended braking and/or a rear wheel lockup whilst driving could increase the risk of a collision and therefore injury to vehicle occupants and other road useres. To fix, a General Motors dealer was to update the Transmission Control Software; in some cases, the valve body was also to be changed. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006144.
2023-24 Chevrolet T1XX Silverado LD: non-compliant brake fluid reservoir cap
In December 2024, recall campaign N24-2479050 was issued for 2023-24 Chevrolet T1XX Silverado LD vehicles. The brake fluid cap affixed to these vehicles did not contain the required warnings under Australian Design Rule (ADR) 35/07 – Commercial Vehicle Brake Systems. However, there was no safety hazard associated with this defect and vehicle performance was not affected. Owners of the recalled vehicles were encouraged to contact GMSV customer care to verify if their vehicle was impacted. If so, owners could make an appointment with a GMSV dealer to replace the cap. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006200.
2021–24 Chevrolet T1XX Silverado LD (1500): engine components may fail
In May 2025, recall campaign N25-249400 was issued for 2021–2024 Chevrolet Silverado T1XX LD (1500) vehicles. In these vehicles, the connecting rods and/or crankshaft may have manufacturing defects which could cause engine damage and, potentially, failure. Prior to failure, this may result in the vehicle failing to start (a “no start” condition), engine hesitation, abnormal gearshifts and reduced propulsion. Drivers were advised to listen for any abnormal knocking noises from the engine and, prior to failure, the engine warning light may illuminate in the instrument cluster. For this recall, an authorised General Motors dealer was to inspect, repair and, if necessary, replace the engine. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006344.
