Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Mercedes-AMG X290 GT
2019-20 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT53: wheel hub covers may detach
In June 2021, recall campaign RC2879 was issued for Mercedes-AMG X290 GT53 vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 4 March 2019 to 25 June 2020. The wheel hub covers for these vehicles may not have been manufactured correctly and may therefore detach from the wheel hub. If the wheel hub detached while driving, it could impact other vehicles or road users or result in an increased risk of a collision of injury. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001618.
2018-20 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT 63 S: screw connection of the power supply
In July 2021, recall campaign RC2891 was issued for 2018-20 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT 63 S vehicles. The screw connection of the power supply on the starter may not have been installed correctly such that the wire to the power supply of the starter could come into contact with the starter housing. Over time, this could lead to the insulated wires of the power supply wearing due to vehicle movement; this could result in a short circuit. A short circuit could, in turn, result in the vehicle stalling and posed a fire risk; these circumstances increased the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001646.
2021-22 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT Coupe: fuel delivery unit failure
In August 2023, recall campaign RC3170 was issued for 2021-22 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT Coupes. Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel delivery unit may fail and this could cause the fuel pump to switch off. If this occurred, fuel supply to the engine would be impaired and the vehicle may experience a loss power. If this occurred while driving, there was an increased risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005747.
2019-22 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT: moisture could enter electrical connector in transmission wiring harness
In October 2024, recall campaigns RC5077 and RC5078 were issued for 2019-22 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect, the electrical connector in the transmission wiring harness may allow moisture ingress, resulting in a short circuit. When the vehicle was parked, this may lead to a thermal overload and vehicle fire. This posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants and bystanders, and a risk of damage to property. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006122.
2022-25 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT: high-voltage starter generator overload
In March 2025, recall campaign RC5131 was issued for 2022–2025 Mercedes-AMG X290 GT 63 S vehicles. Due to a software issue, the high-voltage starter generator may experience an intermittent overload, which could deactivate certain functions. If this occurred, the vehicle may experience a loss of propulsion whilst driving – this increased the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006318.
