Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Mercedes-Benz W223/V223 S-Class

2021 Mercedes-Benz W223 S-Class: suction jet pump and loss of power

In November 2021, recall campaign RC2953 was issued for 2021 Mercedes-Benz W223 S-Class vehicles. In the fuel pump, a nozzle within the suction jet pump could detach and result in a sudden loss of power. Such a loss of power increased the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-004989.

2021 Mercedes-Benz W223 S450: eCall system may not contact emergency services

In December 2021, recall campaign RC2944-RC2945 was issued for 2021 Mercedes-Benz W223 S450 vehicles. Due to a software issue, the automatic network search of the emergency call system (eCall) communication module may be deactivated. If this occurred, the automatic and manual emergency call function may not be available outside of the network coverage of certain providers. If the eCall system was deactivated, it would not be possible for vehicle occupants to contact emergency services in the event of an emergency (either manually or automatically). As a consequence, emergency vehicles may not be directed to the affected vehicle or may be delayed and this could increase the risk of death if a serious injury had occurred. For this recall, no action was required by consumers since the software would be updated ‘over the air’ (i.e. without requiring a workshop visit). For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-004981.

2021 Mercedes-Benz W223 S450: front passenger airbag may deactivate

In December 2021, recall campaign RC2958 was issued for 2021 Mercedes-Benz W223 S450 vehicles. Due to a software issue with the airbag control unit, the front passenger airbag may become deactivated. In the event of a collision, a deactivated airbag increased the risk of injury or death to the front passenger. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005015.

2023-24 Mercedes-Benz W223/V223 S-Class: fuse box defect could cause power loss or fire

In March 2024, recall campaign RC3270 was issued for 2023-24 Mercedes-Benz W223/V223 S-Class vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect, vehicle management systems connected to the fuse box may fail. If this occurred, it could cause a sudden loss of motive power (i.e. drive) and/or a vehicle fire. These conditions could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and the risk of damage to property. To fix, an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer was to replace the fuse box. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005923.

2022–23 Mercedes-Benz W223 S580: main wiring harness may be exposed to high temperatures

In October 2024, recall campaign RC5080 was issued for 2022–2023 Mercedes-Benz W223 S580 vehicles. Due to a software issue in the Engine Control Unit (ECU), the main wiring harness may become exposed to increased engine temperatures and sustain damage. This could cause the vehicle to experience a loss of propulsion whilst driving. Additionally, electrical resistance in the wiring could lead to a vehicle fire. A loss of propulsion and/or a vehicle fire could increase the risk of a collision and injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and the risk of property damage. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006128.

2020–23 Mercedes-Benz W223/V223 S-Class: front axle brake hoses may leak braking fluid

In April 2025, recall campaign RC5128 was issued for 2020–23 Mercedes-Benz W223/V223 S-Class vehicles. Due to high temperatures and moisture, the front axle brake hoses may deteriorate over time. This could result in a brake fluid leak and reduced braking performance, increasing the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006316.
