Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

2018-21 Hyundai FE Nexo: leaking hydrogen gas posed a fire risk

In November 2024, a recall was issued for 2018-21 Hyundai FE Nexo vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect, the glass bulb type Thermal Pressure Relief Device (TRPD) may prematurely fracture. This could lead to hydrogen gas leaking into confined areas which, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire while the vehicle was parked. This posed a risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, or bystanders, and a risk of damage to property. Affected vehicles could still be driven prior to the recall works being performed, but owners were advised to park the vehicles in an open space and away from flammable materials and structures (i.e., not in a garage). To fix, an authorised Hyundai dealer was to replace the pressure release device. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006180.
