Recalls are issued for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Manufacturers or importers seek to inform the original buyer if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. However, manufacturers or importers may not have the contact details of subsequent owners. Please note that the recalls below are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: RAM D2 3500

2021 RAM D2 3500: electrical short circuit and potential engine compartment fire

In December 2021, recall campaign RC20003Y76 was issued for 2021 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing issue, the intake air heater relay may have experience an electrical short circuit. This could occur even when the ignition was switched off, and could result in an engine compartment fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders; it also posed a risk of damage to property. Owners were advised to contact an authorised RAM dealer immediately to arrange for a repair. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect and replace the intake air heater relay. 2019-22 RAM D2 3500: Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system may fail

In April 2022, recall campaign RC20006Z20 was issued for 2019-22 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a software issue with the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system may fail without warning. This could result in a loss of vehicle control, thereby increasing the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants occupants and other road users. Consumers were advised to contact an authorised RAM dealer immediately to arrange for a free repair. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to reprogram the ABS control module. 2021-22 RAM D2 3500: side curtain airbag inflator may rupture

In April 2022, recall campaign RC20005Z07 was issued for 2021-22 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing issue, the side curtain airbag inflators may rupture without warning. If an airbag inflator ruptured, compressed gas and metal fragments could be propelled through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants, posing a risk of serious injury or death. 2019–2022 RAM D2 3500: tailgate strikers may be misaligned

In January 2023, recall campaign RC20011ZB8 was issued for 2019–2022 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, one or both tailgate strikers may have been misaligned during assembly. This could cause the tailgate to open while the vehicle was in motion or stationary. If the tailgate opened while the vehicle was in motion, unsecured cargo may fall onto the road and into traffic – this increased the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. 2021–2022 RAM D2 3500: air heater intake relay may short circuit and cause fire

In August 2023, recall campaign RC2001413A was issued for 2021–2022 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing issue, the relay for the air heater intake may experience an electrical short circuit. This may occur when the ignition was in the on or off positions, and could result in an engine compartment fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders; it also posed a risk of damage to property. 2021-22 RAM D2 3500: engine stalling due to missing sensor

In February 2024, recall campaign RC20015Y43 was issued for 2021-22 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, the diesel particulate matter sensor may not have been installed during assembly. This could increase vehicle emissions and cause the diesel particulate filter to become blocked. If this occurred, it could limit vehicle power and performance, leading to the engine stalling. A loss of power while driving could increase the risk of a collision, and therefore injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. 2013-18 RAM DS 3500: engine control software issue

In February 2024, recall campaign RC2001767A was issued for 2013-18 RAM DS 3500 trucks. Due to a software issue, the engine control software needed to be updated for efficient engine emission performance. While this defect did not pose a safety hazard or affect the performance of the vehicle, the recalled vehicles were not compliant with Australian Design Rule 80/03 – Emission Control for Heavy Vehicles. 2024 RAM D2 3500: turn signal or high beams may not operate as intended

In February 2024, recall campaign RC20016D5A was issued for 2024 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a software issue in the steering column control module, vehicles may have been built with a steering column control module (SCCM) turn signal lever which may not cancel automatically when the steering wheel was rotated or switched off manually. This could result in a non-cancelling indicator and/or the high beam headlights to activate unexpectedly. If the turn signal indicators did not function as intended, other road users would be unable to identify the driver’s intentions, increasing the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. 2023-24 RAM D2 3500: turn signal or high beams may not operate as intended

Due to a software issue in the steering column control module, vehicles may have been built with a steering column control module (SCCM) turn signal lever which may not cancel automatically when the steering wheel was rotated or switched off manually. This could result in a non-cancelling indicator and/or the high beam headlights to activate unexpectedly. 2023–2024 RAM D2 3500: steering column control module may not send airbag signal

In August 2024, recall campaign RC2002314B was issued for 2023–2024 RAM DJ 3500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) may not have been welded to the required specifications. As a result, the SCCM may not send an airbag deployment signal to the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC), which could prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying as intended, increasing the risk of injury to the driver. 2025 RAM D2 3500: instrument panel cluster may not display safety warnings

In December 2025, recall campaign RC20034B4CB was issued for 2025 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a software issue, the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) may not illuminate the visual warnings for the brake system lights, gear selection indicators and other critical safety information. A loss of safety system warnings whilst driving could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. 2025 RAM D2 3500: loss of vehicle control and airbag failure

In January 2026, recall campaign RC20038C3C was issued for 2025 RAM D2 3500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, the Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) module may disable the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system. If this occurred, the ESC system may fail without warning, resulting in a loss of vehicle control. Furthermore, this defect could also result in the seatbelt pretensioners and airbags not performing as intended in the event of a collision. These conditions could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.
