Recalls are issued for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Manufacturers or importers seek to inform the original buyer if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. However, manufacturers or importers may not have the contact details of subsequent owners. Please note that the recalls below are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: RAM DS 2500

2015-17 RAM DS 2500: tailgate may unexpectedly open

In October 2018, recall campaign ASV 020 was issued for 2015-17 RAM DS 2500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing issue, the tailgate latch may have been defective and may disconnect whilst the vehicle was in motion. This could result in unrestrained cargo falling out of the vehicle – this could pose a hazard to other vehicles, thereby increasing the risk of a collision and injury. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001166.

2015-19 RAM DS 2500: brake pedal may become difficult to operate or fail

In August 2019, recall campaign ASV 026 was issued for 2015-19 RAM DS 2500 trucks. In these vehicles, the brake master cylinder pushrod clip may not have been secured correctly. As a result, the master cylinder pushrod – which was connected to the brake pedal pin – may dislodge. This could cause the brake pedal to become difficult to operate or fail. This condition increased the risk of a collision and therefore injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect and correctly secure the master cylinder pushrod clip. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001167.

2015-18 RAM DS 2500: steering may be difficult to operate or fail

In November 2019, recall campaign ASV 029 was issued for 2015-18 RAM DS 2500 trucks. In these trucks, the drag link jam nut may loosen and this could result in the drag link separating from the adjuster sleeve. If this occurred, the steering may become difficult to operate or potentially fail – this increased the risk of a collision and therefore injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001168.

2014–2017 RAM DS 2500: Brake Transmission Shift Interlock pin may stick open

In March 2018, recall campaign ASV 010 was issued for 2014–2017 RAM DS 2500 trucks. In these vehicles, the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) locking pin may become stuck in the open position. This could allow the transmission to shift out of “PARK” without the brake pedal being depressed and/or without the key in the ignition, if a key was applicable. The ability to shift out of “PARK” without a key in the ignition or brake pedal application increased the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway – this increased the risk of a collision and/or injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001171.

2016 RAM DS 2500: side curtain airbag inflators may rupture

In November 2022, recall campaign RC20008Y63 was issued for 2016 RAM DS 2500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing issue, the side curtain airbag inflators may unexpectedly rupture. If an airbag inflator ruptured, compressed gas and metal fragments could be propelled through the airbag cushion towards the vehicle occupants. This could cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect and replace one or both side curtain airbag inflators. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005555.

2016 RAM DS 2500: side curtain airbag inflators may rupture

In November 2022, recall campaign RC20007Y55 was issued for 2016 RAM DS 2500 trucks. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005556.

2013-18 RAM DS 2500: engine control software issue

In February 2024, recall campaign RC2001767A was issued for 2013-18 RAM DS 2500 trucks. Due to a software issue, the engine control software needed to be updated for efficient engine emission performance. While this defect did not pose a safety hazard or affect the performance of the vehicle, the recalled vehicles were not compliant with Australian Design Rule 80/03 – Emission Control for Heavy Vehicles. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to update the engine control software. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005895.
