Recalls: RAM DS 1500
Overview
Recalls are issued for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Manufacturers or importers seek to inform the original buyer if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. However, manufacturers or importers may not have the contact details of subsequent owners. Please note that the recalls below are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: RAM DS 1500
2015-17 RAM DS 1500: tailgate may unexpectedly open
In October 2018, recall campaign ASV 020 was issued for 2015-17 RAM DS 1500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing issue, the tailgate latch may have been defective and may disconnect whilst the vehicle was in motion. This could result in unrestrained cargo falling out of the vehicle – this could pose a hazard to other vehicles, thereby increasing the risk of a collision and injury. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001166.
2015-19 RAM DS 1500: brake pedal may become difficult to operate or fail
In August 2019, recall campaign ASV 026 was issued for 2015-19 RAM DS 1500 trucks. In these vehicles, the brake master cylinder pushrod clip may not have been secured correctly. As a result, the master cylinder pushrod – which was connected to the brake pedal pin – may dislodge. This could cause the brake pedal to become difficult to operate or fail. This condition increased the risk of a collision and therefore injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect and correctly secure the master cylinder pushrod clip. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001167.
2014-19 RAM DS 1500 Diesel: high-pressure fuel pump could leak
In August 2023, recall campaign Z46 was issued for 2014-19 RAM DS 1500 Diesel trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, the high-pressure fuel pump could fail prematurely and introduce failed component debris into the fuel system. If this occurred, it could impair the fuel supply to the engine and result in a loss of power while driving. A loss of power while driving could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect and replace the high-pressure fuel pump and, if necessary, other fuel system components. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005756.
2023 RAM DS 1500: turn signal or high beams may not operate as intended
In March 2024, recall campaign RC20018B2A was issued for 2023 RAM DS 1500 trucks. Due to a software issue in the steering column control module, vehicles may have been built with a steering column control module (SCCM) turn signal lever which may not cancel automatically when the steering wheel was rotated or switched off manually. This could result in a non-cancelling indicator and/or the high beam headlights to activate unexpectedly. If the turn signal indicators did not function as intended, other road users would be unable to identify the driver’s intentions, increasing the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to update the software. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005912.
2017–2019 RAM DS 1500 3.0 Eco Diesel: PCM software may fail to read crankshaft position
In October 2025, recall campaign RC2003366A was issued for 2017–2019 RAM DS 1500 3.0 Eco Diesel trucks. Due to a software issue in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), the signal from the crankshaft position sensor may fail. This could cause a loss of motive power whilst driving and an inability to restart the engine. A loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect the PCM and, if necessary, reprogram it. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006460.
2019 RAM DS 1500: side curtain airbag may rupture
In December 2025, recall campaign RC20035C8C was issued for 2019 RAM DS 1500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, the right-side curtain airbag inflators may unexpectedly rupture. If an airbag inflator ruptured, compressed gas and metal fragments could be propelled through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants – this could cause serious injury or death. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect the vehicle and, if necessary, replace the right airbag inflator. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006508.
2019 RAM DS 1500: left-side curtain airbag may rupture
In December 2025, recall campaign RC20036C7C was issued for 2019 RAM DS 1500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, the right-side curtain airbag inflators may unexpectedly rupture. If an airbag inflator ruptured, compressed gas and metal fragments could be propelled through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants – this could cause serious injury or death. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect the vehicle and, if necessary, replace the left airbag inflator. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006509.
2019 RAM DS 1500: left and right side curtain airbags may rupture
In December 2025, recall campaign RC20037C2C was issued for 2019 RAM DS 1500 trucks. Due to a manufacturing defect, the right-side curtain airbag inflators may unexpectedly rupture. If an airbag inflator ruptured, compressed gas and metal fragments could be propelled through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants – this could cause serious injury or death. To fix, an authorised RAM dealer was to inspect the vehicle and, if necessary, replace the left and right airbag inflators. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-006512.
